Hot Cocktails to Warm You Up this Winter

Hot Cocktails to Warm You Up this Winter

4 minute read

The wind is brisk, the snow is falling, and our fingers are cooooooold. Thank goodness we’ve got a cure for that. Look, we know chilled cocktails dominate the mixology world, but this season we’re here to sing the praises of hot cocktails. Whether it’s a vintage classic, or simply spiking our favorite cozy drink, it’s just the thing we need to warm ourselves up on a freezing day. Here are the cocktails we’re gonna be drinking alllllll winter long!

Hot Toddy

Hot Toddies sound like a drink straight out of an old fashioned British novel, and we’re gonna be real with you—they are. But they're also an absolutely delicious classic that deserves to make a big time comeback! The “taddy” started as an Indian drink first written down in the 1600s before it became a British import and got retitled as a Hot Toddy. The basic formula has stayed the same across the continents: hot water with sweetener, spices, and a splash of your favorite booze. Mix to your taste and you’ll end up with a soothing winter pick-me-up.

Our Recipe:

The Blanket Fort Hot Toddy
1.5 oz Bundled Up-infused whiskey⁣
.5 oz lemon juice ⁣
.5 oz maple syrup ⁣
1 cup hot water (or to top⁣)
Cinnamon stick to garnish ⁣

Add first three ingredients (to taste) to a mug and top with hot water. Stir until dissolved and pop in a cinnamon stick. Let the steam warm your face, the mug warm your hands, and the drink warm your insides.

Mulled Wine

Wine is great. Warm wine infused with fruit and spices is even better. Considering how near and dear infusion is to our hearts, it’s a no-brainer that we love Mulled Wine! It’s been a favorite drink across the ages—the ancient Greeks loved the stuff and the sipping hasn’t stopped since.

Our Recipe:

Fireside Mulled Wine
1 bottle of affordable red wine
.25 cup Navel Gazer-infused brandy
1 sliced orange
2 cinnamon sticks
3 star anise
8 whole cloves
1 oz honey (or to taste)
Orange rounds to garnish

Add all ingredients to a saucepan and bring almost to a simmer. You want it steaming but not bubbling or else you’ll start to evaporate your booze! Cook for 15 minutes and adjust sweetness and spices to taste. Serve in mugs with orange rounds as garnish and get cozy by the fire—or a fireplace video on your TV.

Irish Coffee

Coffee cocktails have been around for hundreds of years, but the Irish Coffee was born in the 1950s. This bold, creamy cocktail is the perfect bev for coffee connoisseurs and mid-century modern lovers alike! Just make sure not to drink this one toooo late into those chilly winter nights—the caffeine packs a punch! But ya know, if you’re starting a rousing game of Catan after 7pm, it might be to your advantage.

Our Recipe:

Snow Capped Coffee
1.5 oz Snowed In-infused whiskey
6 oz hot coffee
2 tsp brown sugar
Lightly whipped heavy cream
White sugar to garnish

Pour freshly brewed hot coffee over brown sugar in a pre-warmed mug. Stir until the sugar is dissolved, then add whiskey. Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form but the cream is still pourable. Pour over the back of a spoon onto your coffee, allowing it to sit on top and not break the surface. Sprinkle a dusting of sparkling sugar on top of your cream. Snuggle up with your favorite book and sip away!

Add Some Booze to Your Bev!

A little splash of your favorite alcohol makes the perfect addition to some of your standby winter favorites. Go ahead and spike that hot drink! Here are our favorites:

  • Spiked hot chocolate: We recommend pairing it with Navel Gazer infused whiskey for major chocolate orange vibes!

  • Spiked eggnog: Who says you can’t enjoy eggnog post-holidays? If you don’t want to go through the effort of making nog at home, add a splash of your favorite booze to the store bought stuff (we love spiced rum).

  • Spiked apple cider: Cider really shines with a little added bourbon, and it’s all the better if you mull ‘em with some spices!

  • Spiked tea: A flavorful evolution of the Hot Toddy! Brew a cup of your favorite tea and pour in a little booze. Black tea tastes delish with whiskey, vodka pairs with fruity teas… experiment to find your favorite combos.
